Shreeya Smith is a PhD candidate and Nettheim Teaching Fellow (2020) at the University of New South Wales. Her research focuses on Commonwealth executive power and public health crises. In particular, she draws on a functional approach to the Commonwealth executive’s nationhood power under s 61 of the Constitution to consider the scope of Commonwealth power to respond to a public health crisis. She is also the Deputy Director of the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law’s newly established ‘Responding to COVID-19 Project on Public Law and Public Health’.
